About Us

1.4 billion people on our planet live in extreme poverty. The Global Poverty Project's mission is to increase the number and effectiveness of people taking action to see an end to extreme poverty.

About the Global Poverty Project

The Global Poverty Project's vision is a world without extreme poverty within a generation.

We exist to increase the number and effectiveness of people taking action to end extreme poverty.

With support from leading development specialistis, we have developed 1.4 Billion Reasons - a simple, but effective presentation that is travelling the world, inspiring and empowering audiences in its path.

Based on leading research, the presentation clearly articulates the facts of extreme poverty and demonstrates that by making simple changes everyone can be a part of the solution.

Since being launched at the UN High Level Event on the MDGs in September 2008, the Global Poverty Project has:
  • Developed the 1.4 Billion Reasons feature slideshow presentation.
  • Delivered the presentation to more than 75,000 people in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA
  • Activated more than 27,500 people to take action to end extreme poverty
  • Reached more than 400,000,000 people through media coverage in 5 countries

How can you help end extreme poverty?

Our everyday actions - in what we learn, say, buy, give and do - can help create opportunities for those living in extreme poverty.

Using 1.4 Billion Reasons, we explore the impact of everyday actions and individual actions in the fight against extreme poverty, and link audience members with leading organizations taking action to end extreme poverty.

You can get involved by attending a presentation, or making a commitment to take action.
